Student are being taught to solve word problems by using a number line: counting back for subtraction and counting on for addition., they also have been using manipulatives such as cubes as counters, and recently number bonds. Please reinforce those strategies at home.
When reviewing for ELA and or Spelling, it is important to spend sufficient time. Read the story over again each night. Review key words, phonics, high Frequency words, skills focused in the story, grammar and vocabulary in context.

CLASSROOM-SCHOOL POLICIES
1. snack & water is sold daily at lunch and on 1/2 days $1.00 each-if you choose to bring in your own snack, it must be PEANUT FREE students should not be bringing in lunch bags on 1/2 days- only if they are aftercare.
2. Please keep seperate water bottles for lunch in lunchbag and one for class out of lunchbag. Parents please check water bottles to make sure the lids are leak proof and securely on- we would like to prevent any spills.
3. Just to remind you students are not allowed to wear their jackets in class...ONLY SCHOOL FLEECE or SCHOOL SWEATER- NO SCHOOL HOODIES. Please refer to the school handbook uniform policy. I ask that you PLEASE label all fleeces, gym sweatshirts, and sweaters with your child's name in them.
4. Please check website every night as well as "H" notebooks. Our google classroom is informative as well. Please use it. Homework is to be completed every night in the students handwriting. Missing homework is -5 off of 100 and is not accepted if it is in the wrong book, photocopied or on looseleaf. We pack up every day together and write the books along with the color of the notebook they are to take home. Homework is assigned each night and due the next day.

9. Please check their “H” book every night as we begin to introduce copying. Please check the website as well for any clarification. I will write notes in their book as well if need be.
10. If your child is absent, and you are requesting to pick up homework, it will be left at the office at 2:45… not before. If it is going home with another student in the classroom or building, please call the office and let them know.

Green: "H" folder goes home and gets returned every day and emptied every Friday.
RED SCHOOL SIGNATURE FOLDER: "Tuesday test/office" folder must be emptied, signed and returned the next day.

*Purple TEST FOLDERS- go home every Tuesday and you must sign the front sheet. Empty papers out on the "AT HOME" side and return papers on the "RETURN TO SCHOOL SIDE."

BIRTHDAYS:
will be celeberated at lunch/recess time. Treats can be sent in. They must be peanut free, tree nut free and wheat free. They also must be individualy wrapped (in original packaging) you may make goodie bags but they will not be allowed to be opened in the classroom for safety. They will be sent home in the student's backpack.
